SPOONYARD SS25 CAMPAIGN
RAIN, SLEET, SNOW + BREAKDOWNS!
This SPOONYARD SS25 campaign is our third time working with D-MOP and SPOONYARD, the Hong-based outerwear specialist. These campaigns demonstrate perfectly the synergy and autonomy that we are able to offer with the in-house 2812 STUDIO team. D-Mop and the wonderful Maize Lai are based over 3,500 miles away so they rely on us to work with their use us to source models, locations and sample coordination.
RAIN, SLEET AND SUN!
Spring Summer, late February—yeah, no problem—we can shoot outside! BLOODY FREEZING! In fact… for the first shot, it was absolutely bloody freezing! The client sent references for locations, and we decided that Hexham in Northumberland would give us the river, the greenhouse, and the forest! Thanks to our friends over at Freyja Garden for loaning us one of their greenhouses for one of the shots.
POLAROID FAILURE
The client wanted us to shoot polaroids of each look and sent some inspiration from a photographer they had seen online. We invested in a small ‘My Generation’ camera and a few films. There is for sure a wonderful romance about the unknown and the unexpected when it comes to Polaroid, but really, this one I wouldn't recommend, as the results were unpredictable and extremely inconsistent, even in full daylight! We got somewhat what we set out to achieve with the shots but all in all a little disappointing here with only around 20% of what we shot coming out as we had hoped.
TEAMWORK
Leanne and Olivia from 2812 STUDIO were on set and multitasking, producers, digital assistants and stylists we pushed through the long day and had ups and downs, mainly to do with the terrain and the weather! We got through it and although very muddy and cold we were happy! At one point I was in the river with a tether to the laptop over on the river bank! We were super happy to get everything we needed and call it a wrap…until Olivia broke down….TWICE! We ended the day, cold and wet, sat in a lay-by waiting for the AA man, the saving grace was that Leanne had bought some great crispy cakes at lunch so we finished those whilst we waited!
ROLL OUT + FINAL TREATMENT
As a photographer one of the moments I love the most is handing the final images over and seeing them become the clients to then start sharing and using. No matter where and what I shoot it will always make me immensely proud and grateful to think to myself ’I shot that!'
When we have worked with SPOONYARD previously they are always very particular about the treatments that they want to achieve, so much so, that on this occasion I output and retouched pretty flat and then sent it to their team for colour and grading work. Although what they put out isn’t how I saw the grading it’s nice to see what people do with your images sometimes. I still graded my own selections and it will be my grade going out across my channels.
